You are cordially invited to the Wo+Men fEST, Women and Men for Engineering, Science, and Technology.
The Wo+Men fEST is held on Marie Curie’s birthday every year, with the first edition launched in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of her birthday. She is the only person (who happens to be a woman) to win the Nobel prize in two different science categories (Physics 1903 and Chemistry 1911).
This year’s Nobel is particularly interesting because in the same two categories, Physics and Chemistry, the laureates are women! One of them, Frances Arnold (chemistry), was in Singapore earlier this year as the plenary speaker of our biennial WiEST Symposium.
Into its second edition, the event will feature 5 NTU women from different disciplines:
May O. Lwin, Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information
Pina Marziliano, School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering
Sara Sandin, School of Biological Sciences
Vibeke Sorensen, School of Art, Design and Media
Mihaiela Stuparu, School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences
With President Subra Suresh as the guest-of-honor.
We will also be launching the second call for Women in Engineering, Science, and Technology Conference Grant and the Women@NTU website.
The event highlights the importance of involvement of both women and men in advancing engineering and science in the community. So, it will be fantastic to bring our male colleagues to the Wo+Men fEST.
